This dashboard uses information sourced from the SBA Paycheck Protection Program Loan Level Data published by the U.S Department of Treasury. We performed a significant amount of data curation and documentation to enhance the original files. This includes combining all CSV files in a single dataset, coding text variables into formal classifications (e.g. FIPS), fixing malformed ZIP codes (dropped leading zeroes), inferring business' county (as the source variable is not populated), and other tweaks. This is not always perfect, but improves the overall usability of the product, and reduces data wrangling for other users. Not all issues have been resolved. We are for example investigating invalid NAICS codes (that either do not exist or are not from the 2017 version), coding the congressional districts, and aim to further refine the county lookups. We anticipate publishing a more detailed report on these processes. You can browse, subset, and download the underlying record level dataset using our RDS Explorer, create aggregated tables with our RDS TabEngine, or access using the underlying RDS platform API.
This website is intended as a technology showcase to demonstrate the benefits of combining industry standard REST based web services with high quality data and metadata, as offered by our Rich Data Services platform and related services. It is one of the many potential uses. As a developer or data scientist, you can directly query the data through the RDS API and open source libraries, to build your own solution or for analytical purposes. This work is part of our Public Data Center aiming at making high quality data available to help alleviate the crisis. Contact us should you have any questions, suggestions, or need assistance with your data needs.
